So we decided to scrap the homemade recording plan and take the decent sized pile of money from our streak of shows and put it towards some real studio time.  LAVOLA just recently finished up a track at Bieler Bros. and it was sounding right so we decided to try them out.  Took a tour down there and ended up booking two days (last Tuesday and Wednesday) straight out. 

Anyway, it went unbelievably; couldn't have gone better in fact.  We ended up finishing five songs after two loooong days of non stop tracking and mixing.  Matt and Ryan and Mark were awesome down there and the songs sound amazing.  Here's a short clip of Ben and Mike crushing the end of Been There.

We have to submit some recalls for a few minor level changes but other than that the EP is ready to go. We're still planning on releasing the songs with accompanying videos so that'll be the next project. Really excited to start getting these songs out though!

Tomorrow night we're back at Prop, and we're definitely stoked for it.

Two things for now:

1. last night was the last show for us in a one show per week six week streak since the first that we ever played. it just happened to be the final Wolfbreaker Orchestra show as well, whose first ever performance Ben and I, in a hunter's pace, played some year+ ago.  It felt much much better than last week's, keeping stage volumes up and monitor vocal levels way down. there isn't anything booked solid for the future at the moment so we kind of decided to take that opportunity to focus on recording.

which brings me to 2. the four songs we decided to record i mentioned in the last post.  we chose not to release them in the usual complete EP/LP sense. rather, we'll record one song at a time, each accompanied by an also self-made music video.  so by the end of the gradual building of the EP we'll have similarly veined videos to go with the songs.  the point being that a lot more interest and anticipation will be created as new tracks come out.  Mike programmed the drums a bit for 'been there' this past week and it already sounds massive; guitar tracking hopefully begins Wednesday.

We had a really good practice yesterday; another new song is coming along nicely.  We played through the set for Friday's speakeasy show, jammed the other cover, and discussed the tracks we'd want to record for now.  We came up with four of them, the main goal being for us to have some decent quality recordings to pass around for marketing and what not.  They are, in no particular order:

• been there
• cake
• be my bird
• murray

We're redoing some of the demos i did before the full band came about, but it'll be good especially because i want to shoot a video for been there in particular.

Just wanted to let you know what our blog will be all about.  We'll be chronicling our eventual studio experiences of recording our first tracks as a group and hopefully, down the road, our move into some bigger studios. Expect some video updates from the studio as well as some actual self shot music videos of those tracks we hope to record soon.
